How many of us know how to splice and whip our own lines?
Line splicing lends itself to many applications on vessels and the better you get, the more things you will find on your boat to splice a line around. When used with proper knot tying, splicing can aid you in many tasks around the boat and it is also a great way to kill time.
If you get the hang of it, you might want to venture into ornamental steering wraps, bell lanyards and custom fender lines. Splicing is not too hard to learn and you can really get into it. Give it a shot, we got the whole season ahead of us.
I recommend starting with 3 strand nylon or poly and finish with a neat whipped end.
