splashwell can i change size?

hello all i just got a 18 ft alum starcraft and striped it all the way down i am thinking of changing the size of the splashwell to make room for storage space doors on the sides so doors would open from the top can this been done with out messin anything up ? if so how much space could i get away with from the sides of the motor? also a 55 johnson was on the boat when i got it was told it is around a 1985 is this a ok motor and i did get it started before i took it off thax for any help ) oh ya i am changing this boat into an center console is this ok to do if so any place that console would need to be or just where i wont boat is a deep v 1985 thax again

Put the motor back on and move it around- how much space do you need to move that particular motor with the steering setup you plan on using. mark those demensions and you'll how much you can shrink the splashwell if at all.

billburb,<br />I've got a 1998 starcraft 17' with a 100hp on it. I think I know exactly what you're trying to do. I've thought about the same on mine. I've also thought about lowering the and extending the rear gunnal in order to make a casting deck. I think Tom has the right idea. See how much room you have with the motor on. As for mine, I could probably shrink the splash well by 50% without affecting anything.<br />Good luck.<br />Post some pictures when your done. You just might inspire me to do mine.<br />-Joe
