Speedometer stuck at 20

Last weekend was running the boat and the speedometer stuck at 20MPH.<br />I inspected the small hole on the bottom of the motor and the line going up through the motor & it looks fine. Suggestions ?<br />1988 Mariner 135hp Outboard

You probably got debris stuck in the pitot or tubing. Pull it off at the rear of the speedo head and blow it out with compressed air. Make sure you secure the tube with a tiny tie-wrap over the barb when you re-install it (I made that mistake once!) :eek:

whack it a few times. has worked for me in the past. i think condensation can make it stick sometimes.

Yea tried wacking it already, didn't help.<br />I'll pull the line from the Speedo and check it out this weekend.<br />Thanks for the feedback.

I had the same problem. It was debris in the pick-up. As per someones advice on this board, I took a drill bit, about the size of the hole for the pickup, and pulled the debris out like an auger. Worked like a charm. Remember, use the bit, but not with the drill.

If you want an accurate reading get a GPS. The dash mounted variety is usually not very accurate.
