Hello,
I think I need to replace my vacuum hose for my speedometer. I am getting a false reading when criusing around in the lake. I checked the hose and the part thats inside under the dash is all dry rotted but still plyable. I am however finding it difficult to find a hose on iboats and other web sites. Can I use a rubber hose form my local lowes or home depot? If so does anyone know what the inside diameter is? I can't get to my boat right now or I would take the hose and speedo with me.

Thanks,
Tom

Everything is "relative". If your speedo shows 40 MPH and you are only going 35 so what? But then it may show 35 and you are actually going 40. It simply is a "relative" indication of speed. If the pitot speedometer is not accurate enough, then GPS is the next step.

Thanks Silvertip, here I was enjoying my 58mph reading with my 75hp Rude on my 16' ..........it also reads 58mph when it's tied to the dock....lol.

Re: Speedo vacuum hose

I found some tubing at my local industrial hose supplier because I didn't want to wait a week to order it on line. (my local boat shops only have the gauge+tube packages). Your town probably has one, look under hose in yellow pages. Bring a sample of the speedo tube in. In the case of this tubing, they knew exactly what they had that would work, and it did.

The stuff I use isn't rubber, obviously, - these tubes are plastic or vinyl or something like that, not rubber as far as I can tell. What I'm using isn't exactly the same, but very similar and critically, had the same ID and the same rigidity/flexibility characteristic. It works perfectly though. This wasn't for a speedo, but a water pressure gauge, but the function (and I believe tubing) is exactly the same.

Like I said -- everthing is relative. In your case relative means working or not. But think what great fuel economy you are getting.
