how often should i change my spark plugs i have a 175 hp johnson outboard

I would say "when they get dirty." It all depends on how much use you have each year. If you only take your boat out once a year, then you'll probably get several years use out of them.

i go out every weekend and i do bass tournaments

Pull 'em and look at them. When the gap is getting wider and the center electrodes are getting rounded off, replace 'em.

If your a typical basser you're running hard between holes and then shutting down. Sometimes the engine cools down between runsa and sometimes it doesn't. That's hard on plugs.

Plugs are cheap keep a spare set on a hand and replace them every 50 hours of run time. The normal rule of thumb for boats is every 100 hours but that is just a rule of thumb with the idea of never being stranded as a base. It's not scientific and easily argued but it's also a safe rule to follow.

Most folks put 30-60 hours a year on their outboards. Anglers who do tournaments may do double that. Still, in the scheme of things, that is not a lot of hours. Plugs in normal service should give years of trouble free operation. Replace them when you feel a miss at high speed.
