I will post pictures in a couple hours.Yes, negative goes to the block and the positive goes to the soloniod. You should already have a wire going from the soloniod to the starter.
Post pictures of what you have.
Thank you so much! Here is all you need to get the starting circuit working. The ignition does not need anything else to create spark. As long as the motor rotates sufficiently it should create spark.

I am getting 12volts to the solenoid but when I try to jump the solenoid the starter won’t do anything. There is no clicking or sound when I try to jump the solenoid. It seems like the solenoid is being fed 12 volts but won’t give any voltage out even when I try and jump itHere is all you need to get the starting circuit working. Soloniod has 4 connections. Two big ones that I see are hooked up. Of the two smaller connections there should be one that you are jumping to and then the other one goes to ground. Check to see if you are grounded or put a jumper on it and test again.I am getting 12volts to the solenoid but when I try to jump the solenoid the starter won’t do anything. Jump the main incoming hot to the one coming from the harness. That powers the solenoid. If the soloniod does not click then its bad. Check that and report.View attachment 372915
One of the small post goes to the block for ground and the other post has a wire that feeds into the big red plug. How do I correctly jump the solenoid?
I jumped it. Instantly the starter engaged but I’m pretty sure I have a weak starter because my starter will turn the flywheel then slow down, hesitate and then turn it again and repeat the hesitation after a spin or two.Jump the main incoming hot to the one coming from the harness. Could be connections. How many volts does your battery have?I jumped it. Instantly the starter engaged but I’m pretty sure I have a weak starter because my starter will turn the flywheel then slow down, hesitate and then turn it again and repeat the hesitation after a spin or two.
I’ve been grounding my plugs and keeping the wires connected. The engine’s definitely got compression but I think some rings might be sticking and just need to be lubricated because the engine was sitting for awhile. Also I’ve used a battery charger try directly jump the starter and he starter acted weak. The marine battery I used when jumped the solenoid was a little low. I’m hoping with a good charged battery that my starter will have enough juice to properly work.Hopefully you have put some oil in your cylinders and I would test this with your spark plugs out. You should keep your spark plugs hooked to your wires and ground them out otherwise you could ruin your coils.
It's probably the battery. Don't use the charger, under-volting is hard on everything. Get a meter if you don't have one.I’ve been grounding my plugs and keeping the wires connected. I was able to get the motor running with a charger up battery. The starter seems very strong and I was able to check the starter and it read healthy. How can I connect a kill switch to this outboard? where can I install a toggle switch to pose a kill Switch?
