spark plug hole!!!

ok i go a finish putting my magneto together then check spark excellent spark on all four nice sharp and blue and loud. then i put the number 3 spark plug in then tighten it with the wrench then i think to my self it isnt tightening uh oh. i striped it

1961 mercury 500

now what am i gonna do something called heli coil?

i got a part number for napa for a helicoil inser 2125 now sure how much it costs like 15-30 dollars? any advice

i guess it happens to everyone once in a lifetime

You have now passed another of the home-wrench milestones, cool one.

Please use a time-sert rather than a helicoil. It is alloy and will conduct heat close to the original. Little more work, much better result.

For future reference: hand tight plus 1/4 turn.

no i mean i put it in tightened with hand then turned with wrench but i acually crossed threaded it ripping out threads

well ya the part number i gave is an insert so any tips ya hand tight 1/4 turn in got cha

Hi,

I have used them all before and they all work. For the ones that were installed wrong I used a Keensert to get the engine back on the water for the customer. Just do not start with a Keensert as there is nothing I know of to use after it is messed up. The hole size larger for the outside threads so you can fix the bad heli-coils, ect. So start with the heli-coil or the time-sert like JB said. Make sure you get the hole straight the first time.

believe im using a time sert. ya thank got i broke the 3 one and not the 4th one cause here comes the power head coming off.

it sucks cause this motor there is no head just a water jacket
