Hi Rathe
Welcome to the board. Bud, your going to have to use some words to paint us a little clearer picture about your situation. Let's start with the model# of the evin were talking about. What tests have you performed to determine the conditions? Come on, we won't bite.

This might be vage but an old shop teacher once told me," Fire fuel and compression. Thats all there is to those old motors." Some thing to think about.

How do you know it has fuel. It not the fuel in the tank that counts, you need proper mixture in the cylinder. Take the airbox off and squirt some premix in the carb throats and see if it will fire. Then we can go from there.

I've used some starting fluid and it won't fire. I will come up with some model numbers thanks for your quick responses.

You should never use starting fluid in a 2stroke motor, if you plan to keep it running. But, if it wont start on starting fluid, there is a problem with your spark. These motor will not start on weak spark. Have you tried replacing your spark plugs?

I only have 50 pounds on each cylinder. Will it atlest fire on such low preasure? Does this mean the head gasket my be damaged?

Compression is too low.Remove the sparkplugs and spray some fogging oil into each cylinder.Button it back up and try starting again. This will bring up the compression a little. You could have a bad head gasket,stuck/cracked piston rings or cylinder wear. What horsepower is your motor?

Hey reel, its 35 horse evinrude. Also when they first tried to start the boat it was tilted all the way up and it kinda popped. When it did lower unit grease shot across the yard then it just ran out until about a quart ran out. Have they blown the lower unit seal? I'll try the fogging oil. Thanks!

When the motor was tilted up, what were they using for water supply to cool the motor?

Why don't you put some outboard oil in those cylinders, turn the flywheel several revolutions, and let it sit for 24 hours while we talk this over with you.

Th lower unit problem makes me think they were trying to start the motor while it was in gear -??

The only pressure on the gearcase would be exhaust through the shift shaft seal, and blow the prop seals ONLY IF THE EXHAUST WAS PLUGGED...
Are you positive it was gear lube that "shot" accross the yard and then continued to drain out?????????
It would have to get past 2 sets of seals and 2 O-rings..........

Right, sounds like the exhaust was full of water and stuff from being tilted up.

So put the motor in running postion for the rest of the 24 hours.
