Spare keys for outboard ignition

I have an Evinrude 150hp outboard engine.

I've been trying to get a copy of my ignition key, but not having any luck - the key cutters don't have the right size key to begin with.

Does anyone know how to go about getting a replacement key? Do dealers have them?

Thanks

Try a dealer. There used to be a relatively small number of unique keys for OMC/BRP motors. Not sure it's still that way, but I'd try there first.

Yup, a dealer can fix you up. I got 2 replacement keys last year for my Evinrude 25.
They'll need the original key #. It should be stamped on the key and maybe on the ignition switch.

The key number for the switch is stamped on the switch itself. It may be visible on the tip engine of the switch. You may have to take the switch out of the control box and look for the number stamped on the barrel of the switch, but it is there. Bombardier sells the keys by number, precut.

I have a 1986 Evinrude 115hp
I broke the key in half and got 2 copies made at a locksmith for $4 each.
Not sure what a dealer would charge...

7 extremely well spent dollars in my opinion. They are worth a million dollars if you lose your last one while still miles from shore !!
