I need some serious help. I own a Span America. Year/model unknown. My dilemma is that I'm selling it and I have no idea of the value. I have had three offers. Two were really low but last was rediculoslly high. I don't want to give it away but I don't want to sell it for more than its worth (I like to sleep at night). I want a fair price but I don't want to screw anyone in the process. Best I can tell it's 60's but with all of the research I've done, I can't find this model anywhere. I almost took the boat to the dump to modify the trailer but there are no cracks, all of the gauges are good and everything seems to be intact other than the windshield and deck. I'd hate to throw away the spedo or tach that a guys been trying to find for 15 years to complete his project. I'm NOT pandering my wares here, I'm simply looking (and praying) for some knowledge or direction. Span1.jpgSpan2.jpgSpan3.jpgSpan4.jpgSpan5.jpg

You can never sell it for more than it is worth!
It is worth whatever a buyer is willing to pay!

If he thinks it is worth it's weight in gold; Then to him, it is!
You do not know what his motivation is that is controlling his perception of value.
It may be sentimental or something else. It is not really your concern.

Take the money and sleep well knowing he was happy just to get it!

Can't narrow the year, but it has lines reminiscent of this '66 16' Mustang 783px-Spanb66009.jpg

To answer your question, it's worth what someone is willing to pay. You could go to Boat Values, Prices, Evaluations, Used Boat Price Guides - BUCValu and sign up, you get 5 free values. '66 Mustang will be a close enough model to get a ballpark. To get a fair price. If it runs, you have a $500-800 engine+ whatever you feel the hull is worth. If it's got a solid transom/deck/stringers, than you could have a $1k boat complete that would sell in peak season as a fishing boat.

If you were offered a mil and will only take $20... I'll be buying the boat and I'll toss you another $100 for the name and number of the guy offering a million.

The value of the boat is determined by one thing and one thing alone.... the average price that buyers will give for it...... I'd offer no more than $75 figuring on junking the boat and recovering my money and a profit from the engine and trailer.... The next guy might happily give you $500 and be laughing all the way home about the great deal he got.

Close but not close enough. I have her sitting next to my '77 Thunderbird Formula (unfortunately also for sale) and she's almost, if not as long. Thunderbird is 21.5. I've researched the *&$# out of this and I can NOT find this boat. I either have the rarest Span in history or a POS thats not worth the storage cost and I can't find out which. Frustrating.

You've hit the nail on the head. I can turn the trailer in to something that I couldn't buy for less than a $800 if I scrap the boat but I don't want to scrap something that is of value to someone else. I think I might strip it and scrap the hull. good plan smoke, thanks for the idea, lol.

you COULD give the boat away FREE while keeping the things that are of value to you.

Looks more like the 18ft Span Shore model from 1959-1961 to me. Check out the link below:

If someone offered you have imagine they thought they were low balling you so if you sell it to them they will think they got one over on you so are actually doing the guy a favor by selling it to him for what you think is way too much.

Maybe he knows what it is and it is worth more than you think, either way if someone is offering take the money, you would not be doing anything wrong at all, now if you knew it had a rotted transom and the engine was blown and you misrepresented the boat then ya but that is not the situation.

Yep, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it....

IMHO the hull isn't worth a thing..., but that's to me, maybe someone is dying for one of those. The motor has some value, but probably not if the boat comes with it.... And the trailer, well without a title it wouldn't be worth anything to me but there are people out there that will buy it....

Just my 2 cents....

That extremely high offer didn't include some complicated shipping deal and/or refunding of part of the payment, did it? Standard scam.

Re: Span America - Please Help

first, how about some specifics. What were the three offers?

second, does the motor run? there's $500 to a user and more to a collector/restorer

third, trailer is $200-500

Hull is good, got lots of original hardware. Looks like a bronze prop? Too bad someone trashed the interior and installed high chairs.

Re: Span America - Please Help

Well the 'high' buyer was in a car accident so he's out of the picture. I went to visit him in the hospital last week. Totaled his Range Rover too. I think I'm gonna strip her and 86 the hull. I hate to do that though because she's 52 years old and not a crack on her. I actually feel guilty for thinking about it. Feels like I'm tossing a piece of history in the trash.

You do not want to give it away, but you are willing to throw it away!
You may need some serious help. :D

Who is going to take a bare hull with no trailer UW? If you want it, come and get it, lol.

smokeonthewater, $75, $85 and $1800.
