Ralsky has said he has lists of 150 million e-mail addresses as a part of his business, so the Verizon case would likely make only a small dent in it.

we should be sure to let them know they are no better than a thief, taking our precious personal time away for their personal gain. and demanding our attn when they deserve nothing more than to be denied access to the internet for 20yrs...or until they've funded and provided computers to every school in the world, along with giving every personal belonging & cent they have to fight future spammers online abuses.

Yeah.. They sure do.. Along with those who send Junk Faxes Advertizing whatever their trying to sell, and those lousey, stinking, good for nothing telemarketers who always call durring dinner time...

I can tell you as a systems support person, this is a small step in the right direction! We get SOOOOOO much spam its unreal. What's ironic though, is that our last batch of "KLEZ" viruses was all from a verizon.net address. Reckon if I emailed them that our small college was receiving viruses from one of their customers they would have cared?<br /><br />BL...

It has to stop. We tried a SPAM filter at it lowest level for a week. At that level we stopped probably 25% of the spam our compnay gets in one week. It added up to 8,000 spam emails. That was about 25%. <br />The telemarketers are just as bad. 90%, (No I am not kidding, I rarely use the phone except to dial my ISP) of our incoming phone calls at home are from telemarketers. Now we have an option. Wisconsin started a "no call list". When you sign up, no telemarketer can call you for a period of 2 years. After 2 years, you have to renew. The are a few exceptions like charities and companies you already do business with that can still call. I signed up the first week. The list goes into affect Jan 1, 2003. Man, I can't wait. I also can't wait until we get our permanent spam filter. Nothing like our female employees getting "Enlarge your parts" email in the general mail boxes.

We have the "No Call" list here in Texas and it works pretty good. The ones that do get through though, I ask to hold for a second, then put the fone down and wait till it makes the "fone off the hook" noise and hang it up. I am thankful this brought up the people it did. it is a sore subject with me. no matter how it is rationalized, its still the same as a friggin chigger doin the indy 500 around your little brown star. Its terribly irritating. there is no good fence around it yet, but dammit, there will be one day, I truly believe...<br /><br />lmao at 12'r

Get rid of your landline phone and go mobile. Will eliminate those telemarketers and send a message to the phone company. Crank the security setting up on your computor, install antivirus systems, run Adaware to eliminate programs that use spyware and don't use homepages like Yahoo, Roadrunner, et al. that use spyware. Only use reputable email servers and crank the filter up tight. <br />Spammers cann't be stopped(yet) be you can safegaurd yourself somewhat from them getting your address.

I agree also that SPAM needs stopped and or controlled some way. I only have the basic computer skills that let me get accomplished what I need. This is a stupid question probably, but why can't there be a dot porn? such as dot com, dot edu, etc. Let them have their own side of the net. Then have security settings that would block dot porn or other dot whatevers. Does this make sense

A .porn (or .***) would be ideal. Who/how would it be enforced is the problem. Originally, .org was supposed to be non-profit type organizations - ain't so no more. About the only one really controlled seems to be .edu.<br /><br />As for the telemarketers, we have caller id and don't answer if its unknown. Unless I'm up to having a little fun with them like the comedians talk about.<br />- tell them your glad they called because you've got a 1962 Ford F100 you've been trying to sell and wonder if they would be interested.<br />- tell them your busy but if they give you their home number you'll call them back later. If they say "I don't want you to call me at home" say "Me neither"<br />- tell them you can't talk right now because your 90 year old mother just fell down the stairs. Ask them to call 911 for you.<br />- If its a female (or if your comfortable with your manhood, do this for male callers also) ask them what they're wearing. Be sure to let them know you are totally naked and sitting on the couch watching a porn movie.<br />- Tell them that you thank they are the "best dam* telemarketer" thats ever called. Ask them where they went to school to develop such a great technique.<br /><br />And when your done talking (if they don't hang up on you) tell them you would like your name & number removed from their phone list.<br /><br />BL...
