Re: Sorry in advance.

Peter--I work in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Most Special Education emotionally disturbed self-contained classrooms(I have the same kids all day, except PE and teach all subjects) limit the caseload to 8 kids. It easily feels like twice as many kids with their mental health/emotional problems. Having more than 8 is a law-breaker  We also have a full-time RN to administer meds. I thought most states had the same guidelines with self-contained classrooms. Have a good week. :D MB

We do but it's not 8 more like 16. We usually have a classroom aid to help out but not always. Special Ed is not a priority and more like an afterthought around here. I would not do anything else though.

First and foremost, my hat is sincerely off to all of you who teach and/or work within the mental health systems. I have friends that do both and I am currently pursuing my degree in teaching.

When I hear tales like these, it reminds me how lucky we are to have people like yourselves that continue to perform this type of work. My only hope is that when I finally make it through college ( 5+ years and I'm only a sophmore) that I will carry with me the same work ethic as those who came before me.
