Hello all , I was hoping to get some advice on a problem I am having with my first boat I've ever owned.
A quick history of the boat that may help. To make a long story short I purchased a 15' Sylvan Deep V Aluminum Boat in 2006. The boat motor trailer package was purchased in 1998 or 99 and when I picked it up it has only seen approximatly 10 hours of usage... I believe this to be true as there were no scratches blemishes either in or on the exterior of the boat and motor. It reall looks brand new, not even a nick on either the motor prop or the trolling motor prop.. The motor is a 25 hp mariner model # 7-025312GD.
I used the boat a few times in 2006,07,08, and always felt the motor to be too small for the size of the boat considering the weight in the boat. Max hp for boat is 40hp. Since I am new to boating I was always ok with the performance since I had no reason to run the boat fast. But it always seemed to plow through the water instead of riding ontop of the water. Again I figured the reason for this was not enough hp. Anyway one of my last trips out last summer we were striper fishing in the river and decided to reel up and head further down the river .. The boat plowed along as usual at full throttle and all of a sudden the motor reved up the boat come out of the water and we were moving faster then the boat had ever moved..The boat has a side console and I could feel the boat out of the water under my feet,had a nice roostertail and a wake I'd never seen befor... This lasted 10 minutes or less and did not come back..
So I now know what the motor is capable of, and there is a problem.. Here where I need some guidence.. I am thinking that because of the lack of use maybe the diaphram is cracked or warn and the motoer is just not getting the fuel it needs.. Is there a carb kit I can order for my motor that would have a new diaphram? ANd any other suggestions would be greatly appriciated.. Thanks A2F
