Okay, I totally scrapped the idea of installing a semi-permanent paver block patio inside the garage and took all the blocks back for a refund this morning!

A week ago I was thinking that I needed more than 40 blocks so the next day the boy and I went back to HD and picked up an additional 20. Got 'em home, offloaded and started trying to lay out a pattern. After an hour of bending over, scraping, lifting, moving and whatnot, we finally had only SEVEN blocks laid! :faint2:

And they weren't perfect or anything. Not even close. At that point we had to get the stuff out of the former "hobby" (new dining room) and out to the garage. Daylight was waning and in order to expedite the process we just laid a big tarp over the sand. That's when the light came on in my head that I'd been wasting time and effort with the pavers. I just needed a place off the sand to put stuff temporarily while awaiting the concrete pour. I do have another line on some storage shelves and am hoping to get some this weekend so that I can get stuff off the sand and tarp.

Further, we also discovered that our new-to-us dining room set is just too big for our little room. Sure, we measured everything and it all barely fits, but there is no maneuvering room at all. So we're going to sell or trade it for something smaller and more reasonable for our house. Doing that today too.,

Keeping busy here!

I know, I know. Gotta watch having storage out there. But all that stuff is actually mine!

Much of it is related to my RC airplane hobby (which I've now left behind other than a couple of uncompleted planes) and lots of miscellaneous hardware and tools.

Once I get some shelves up, most of that stuff will go on the shelves and be out of the way. Some may be given to charity as well.

Did get a smaller replacement couch today and it fits the living room much better. Met with a couple guys interested in our dining room set. Am hoping to sell it this coming week. The guys are busy and won't be able to come check it out for a few days.

Found a couple of smaller dining sets too, so more progress although no purchase made yet.

Tomorrow we're going to move the large dining set out to the garage too. Oh oh! But that's simply to allow it to be viewed and therefore sold more easily. And we're planning on getting some of that junk in the garage organized a bit so that it works better. That small chest of drawers in my prior post will be emptied of all the "stuff" in there, will be cleaned and returned to the house for the boy to use.

Oh! I also ordered and received some new speakers for the garage tunes. Gotta get those mounted and hooked up. Should be rockin' out there soon!

These are the shelves I'm hoping to get. The guy has 60 sets for sale and I could use 4 or 5... maybe 6 or 7 or 8?? I still haven't addressed emptying out and disposing of my old 10x10 shed that's currently housing compressors, chains and tractor stuff!

Well, I missed out on the storage shelves. The guy had 60 sets for sale when I posted the pix above but I got really busy, so 2 days later when I finally had some time, all 60 were long gone! Dangitall. I waited too long again. Another missed opportunity. Sorta like missing out on other boats to feed my MBS. :bolt:

Today the one business owner guy came over and we agreed on a price for the too-big dining set and china hutch. I came out a couple bucks ahead so no loss.

BUT! His pickup team can't get it this week. Maybe next week or even 2 weeks from now. Darn. :grumpy: It's taking up space as can be seen in the video. The blue moving blankets cover the dining set. Can't even get the Kingfisher outta da garage!

And yeah, I even have the Kingfisher acting as storage now too! Oh noooo! :faint2:

Ah well, this is a time of transition for us so I'll just put up with it till after the New Year. We're on the lookout for a smaller dining set and maybe a china hutch or secretary for storage in the new-to-us but still unused dining room.

Got the new speakers connected to the stereo and they sound pretty good. I'll be permanently mounting them up in the front and rear corners of the building to get even better sound and hopefully a little more bass reinforcement. The bass is pretty good but I like it to thump and boom when needed.

We rearranged a few things in the garage but the major improvement was getting that old dresser cleaned up and painted a little, then moved back into the house where the boy can use it for his stuff. That allowed me to remove the old computer desk in there and we'll take that to the dump. It's busticated. The boy's fired up about the dresser too. Said he wants to paint it bright red with orange flames on the sides! :D

I'm still watching craigslist for more shelving units and I'm sure that some will become available... eventually.

Yeahh... I know. Been so busy that I haven't had time to get the stuff outta the KF and rearranged in the garage.

But I did send the garage speakers back! They just couldn't perform on the bottom end. Sigh. Me likes me bass! :blue:

My daughter arrives from up north tomorrow for a 6 day visit. Haven't seen her in 4 years! Really looking forward to having her here. All this activity has been in preparation for her arrival. We needed a regular dining area, so had to get it done. And we did. Got a nice microwave/serving cart too.

We did buy a smaller table (4'x3') and some fold-up chairs as a temporary measure. Also bought a smaller oak China Hutch from a local thrift shop and are very happy with the size and condition. Fits the room perfectly and doesn't overpower it like the big one did.

Got the smaller living room furniture too. Even got a small table to put the cable box and Wi-Fi on in the dining room. So we're all set furniture-wise. Fully functional now.

Missed out on even more shelving units but will continue to monitor.

Am planning on rearranging a bit in the garage over the next few days so that we can get the KF out and use it to actually go fishing while my daughter is here. She's an awesome angler! :fish2: :thumb: :D

The largemouth should be in pre-spawn mode so I'm planning on getting some large shiners and tryin' for some bigun basses! :tongue-new:

Here's the new hutch.

Went fishing today. Caught nothing. "Not a creature was stirring..."

But at least we got out there. Had my daughter with us this time too. She's not been out in a boat (of my own) with me in 20 years.

Nice, southpaw too? I can never tell actually. I bat, golf, play hockey lefty but throw and write righty. I thought I fished lefty too until someone told me it was righty, crank on the right side but cast with left. Have a great holiday and a Happy new year with your long lost daughter. Enjoy every minute bud.

I don't understand the southpaw comment?

Daughter isn't long lost... we're in constant touch and always have been. No estrangement!

She's 28 and lives in Baltimore, far from here. I had custody of her till she turned 18 and went out into the world on her own. Been together many, many times since then.

But I didn't always own a boat at those times! That's what I meant when I said that she'd not been in a boat with me for 20 years or so.

However, when she lived with me down here we'd fish from the dock or go out on charter boats or with friends in their boats and whatever.

she was holding rod with left hand? =southpaw :)
Yeah, I know what southpaw means. But my daughter is holding her spinning rod in her right hand and cranking the reel with her left. Normal for a righty.

My wife isn't holding her rod at all and the boy is just sitting there like a doofus.

Sorry if I offended. Long lost was a joke because you said you hadn't seen her in 4 yrs. I guess I misread the photo. It looked the other way around. It seemed she was spinning with her right. Sorry for the confusion now get back to opening presents would ya.

Well guys, we had a great but too short visit with my daughter here. She and my wife got to know each other a bit more, did the girl bonding thing and ended up telling tales about me to each other!

December was pretty frantic for me and only yesterday did I have enough "alone time" to allow me to sit, research and think about next steps for the garage. And it's a good thing too. After thinking about it at length I decided to change things up a bit.

Recently I'd been fired up to maximize storage so that I can get as much carp off the floor. Now I've decided to minimize storage and get rid of the carp instead! Gonna start that process in the morning. Will go out to the garage after breakfast and start tossing stuff and figuring out what I can give away as well.

Originally I'd thought that I'd use several floor standing shelves about 4 to 8 feet long and 2 feet deep each. But after reexamining my floor plan ideas (including multi-boat plus car storage) I realized that I wouldn't be able to fit everything in there if I take up a lot of floor real estate with shelving. I need a way to get stuff stored without cramping the foot room.

So I'm going UP now! I'll install overhead shelves as needed above the window level instead of using a bunch of floor standing shelves. Yesterday I spent quite a bit of time just sitting inside the garage (in the Kingfisher ) and looking and thinking. Realized that I have lots of overhead area that can be used for storage. I'll keep it to a minimum though. Need to streamline everything as much as possible.

Getting rid of as much carp as possible, then moving the rarely used stuff up will allow me to use smaller and fewer floor shelves.

So that's where I am at the moment.

Oh yeah, the furniture buyer didn't call or show, so that big dining room set is still sitting in the garage. Gonna have to move it out of the way once I get the other carp cleared out. :blue:

Would appreciate any thoughts and advice. :joyous:

Plenty of room topside!
