Does anyone have a boat that a solid dark color? (like black) Any regrets? Does the gelcoat get too hot? We are in the process of purchasing a new boat and we can choose one that is 100% black... looks REALLY cool... just not sure if i will one day wish it was white with a black stripe :-O.

I take really good care of my boats.. always garaged, always cared for... but just loking for some advice on how hard it is to keep up a black boat.

thanks.

Thats a nice looking boat, I think that it would get really hot on sunny day. But then maybe you could cook lunch on it.

Think about the upkeep on a black car -- when its NOT raining or the roads are wet. Well -- your black boat is in water whenever it's used. Water spots, scum, and other stuff would really make it a chore to keep up, and I go along with the others on the "hot" issue.

Even though the sun only shines in WA twice a year it's gonna be too hot.
BLack and Red fade 1st. Think (trade in) years from now.

Put that bad boy out in the sun and you really will be able to fry eggs on it. I have a black Force and when out in the sun, if you accidentally touch it or brush against it, it WILL raise a welt. After 1 season, I couldnt take it any more. I repainted the hood white.

I would pass on the black. There is GOOD reason why most all boats are white. You wouldn't even be able to get near that thing here in the summer.

If you keep it in the garage under cover it should look good for years, if you park it outside or use it, it should look good until noon. People like the look of black boats, but the dealers and builders hate them, they're just too hard to keep clean and in good shape until the customer takes it home. Every tiny scratch and finger print shows up, just think what will happen when somebody jumps onto the bow from a sandy beach, instant scratches. White gel coat will get to about 140 to 145F in the sun, black can get to around 180F and sometimes a little more in the sun.

I have a dark blue narrow stripe on our boat's primarily white rear cushion over the stern drive and you can't step on it without scalding you feet. I think I would hate a black boat as well.

hmmmm... maybe i will just use it on rainy days:). I still haven't decided which boat to get... all black.. or white with black stripes. I love the black boat (and my wife REALLY likes the back boat)... but i don't want to buy a boat that isn't fun in the sun. I will keep it in my garage and i will wash, wax, polish.. just like all my other boats in the past.

Someone has a black 28 - 30 footer on lake washington that I see all the time. Looks really cool but I agree with most of the others....hard to keep up. Also..if you have kids, it might hurt climbing out of the water onto that black hull.

S. Lake Union...right?

Yeap.. South lake Union.. there is a Crownline dealer there that is having a few all black boats created... not something they normally do.

That's a really HOT looking boat that will -- sadly -- be a really HOT feeling boat after a couple hours in the sun. What colour is the carpet and upholstry?
