Only problem is that a Moomba doesn't fit the "fancy" description ;) They are the Bayliner of V drives ;)

a bit of an apples to oranges comparison, but i digress. moombas are an entry level towboat, but i think if you looked at a moomba and bayliner side by side, you would see a major difference in quality.

OP should be able to find an early 2000s mastercraft x-star, X-2, Nautique 210 or Supersport (same hull w/o tower). I just saw a 1999 Super Air Nautique for sale under 17K. Needs new vinyl, which would run about 4-5K in that boat.

Umm - nope. I live 5 blocks from the Moomba dealer and have looked at them many times. My Bayliner has a nicer interior ;) I had decided that if I were to go V-drive that I would buy a 5 year old Malibu rather than buying a brand new Moomba

as additional fyi I live in Colorado with only a few reservoirs to boat in, maybe the occasional lake powell or to Lake Mconoughey (spell check) up in Nebraska. So unless I'm in bad weather I don't think I'll ever be in too bad of water. Think I want to stay in the 2000's for a boat, getting into the 90's is just automatically stuff needing to be replaced due to age. and there's been a lot of advancement in the 2000's that go a long way. I would much, much, much prefer to have a tower with speakers and lights already than have to add one later for a bunch of money. I probably would pass on a boat without even just a basic tower already installed on my next one. I couldn't bring myself to add one to my last boat and probably wouldn't for next one too. shallow water is a concern for me too as I do like to get near the beach to get out and relax there without having to go in waist/chest deep water. Malibu does make some nice boats for sure but I might sacrifice the V drive for an I/O that had more "features" and deal with the wake. I'm no pro anyways. decisions decisions....

yeah no, although I've got some similar pics somewhere. I wakeboard quite a bit when I get a chance, usually behind a moomba.

Some of you guys slamming Moomba have no clue what your talking about. My neighbor has a 06 Malibu and one of my employees has a 11 Bayliner so I've been in both and will tell you there is nothing wrong with a Moomba. Yeah they're low end wakeboard boats but they're still nice boats. But all that doesn't matter, what does is the fact that OP doesn't have the budget for a nice, recent, fancy Malibu or Mastercraft.

That is going to be the toughest requirement to fill in a used I/O in the year range you are looking at. You will find a few with towers, fewer yet with speakers and probably none with lights. Best bet is to find the boat you want be it I/O or V drive (drive a bunch of them) and figure out which one has the features you like in the condition that you like. Figure $3-4K for adding a tower/speakers

They are a nice boat from a functional perspective, but they have the most basic interior and features available in a tow boat. That is their niche. I spend all my time in either an 05 Bayliner 195 or an 05 Malibu Response LXi, so I'm pretty familiar with both ;)

This is one more reason that I'm shying away from the V-drive option right now. We tend to beach our boat a lot, and with an inboard you have to worry about the fins. (Ignore the ice fin, that was the result of some freaky MN weather this year)

A new Moomba LSV with all the options will still run over $50k... Comparing them to a bayliner isn't even close, they are very nice boats inside and in some ways are actually nicer than some of their higher dollar competitors.
