Now lets keep this thread kinda at a G rating..Would like to grow some legs here before JB deems it just to Poof

During fishn season my lures all thrown all over the place..They are exposed to every smell in the World.

In the spring those that are my favorites I will soak in warm water and add some of my own brew overnite. I use to be able to soakem all but I am older now and have about 500 now and can't please em all. :D

Fish can smell unpleasant scents as well as the good. Cigarette,Oil,Gas,and who knows what else your hands touch during the day.

Alot of Northern folks will wear gloves but you can tell if your a true ridgerunner if you take a wiff of our hand or fngers and can tell whether the fins will like or not

I guess my question here is, how often during the year do soak your lure? Please think before you type. We would'n want anyone to get the wrong idea here :D

I never thought about soaking lures but I knew an old guy that put oil of anis (don't even think it) on his worms.

This is something I never thought of but seems like a small thing that could make a big difference. Especially after a day on the water lot of times I got lures in every nook & cranny & leave them there till I tie 'em on again 2 or 4 or 27 weeks later. But when to find the time...my fishing season starts Sept 1 and ends Aug 31.

I gotta consider this - thanks for bringing it to my attention,

jtw

When on the lake up North I will use Walleye or Perch. When I am on the Lakes in Ohio I will use Shad.. By soaking your lure or lures it gives it back its sterlized State..Its the scent or wiggle thats attracts your prey of choice..

That must be a new formula Nate..I will have to remember that the next time I am in the hunt..

I like it because it is made from fish oil. Good stuff. They sell it at Wal Mart for $5 for the aerosol can.

Re: Soakn Yur Lure

Lots of guys here keep a bucket of water on the boat with Joy lemon soap. Keep hands washed, throw lures into the boat after each use.

Helps hide the human scent, plus washes off old lure scent-oil.

I've seen a guy stop salmon running in the fish ladders @ Bonneville Dam just by putting his hand into the water. They stopped their migration run for almost 5 minutes. So human scent is something they don't like.

Next time you catch a fish, just rub it's scent on the lure and cast away, nothing like fish smell to attract fish.

When I catch a bass on a spinnerbait, I always rub the fingers I used to unhook it onto the blades and skirt.
Works for me.

Re: Soakn Yur Lure

After washing them with your favorite solution try rinsing them in a salt water bath instead of the normal rinse. I use a 3 gallon pail and i add about a 1/2 cup of salt and a couple of tbsp oil. I usually let soak for a couple of hours. Scoop them out and let "dry".

If it smells like fish.........

Re: Soakn Yur Lure

i see a bunch of people saying to use an oil based scent and im pretty against that since oil will wash off instanly when it hits the water. anything oil based does not last. try a paste form like carolina lunker sauce, that stuff lasts about 20-30 mins on any lure.
