The HIN (hull identification number) is on the starboard transom, post it and we'll tell you who made it and probably when.

When looking at the back of the boat, starboard is the right side, when looking at the front of the boat, starboard is the left side... that way starboard and port are always the same side.

The numbers you gave leave out the 3 letters at the beginning, that is the manufactures code.

Re: So i got bit by the boating bug and...........

hhmmm thats wierd. i looked for it but i didnt find any plate or anything that would have a number or anything, so i took it of the title and thats all it had. So that you all know i am VERY new to this and if it seems like your holding me hand, it because you are LOL.

Ok Custombycrunch my new found friend, do you mind giving me a lesson in what i am looking for? is it in the inside or the out? is it usally on the transom (hey i know what that is), or is it on the side wall, or on the floor?

does it look like a vin number tag?

anyway, i thank you again for the help

It should be high up on the transom, on the outside of the hull, impressed into the hull itself... maybe 1/2" high letters and numbers.

I just looked at the site used to identify boats by numbers... seems they didn't use the same format back then http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.html

You will probably just have to go with what the tile says... at least now you know your starboard from your port 8)

Is there any other things you think i can do to identify this boat? i got a few more pics i ca put up if you think that will help.

Ok drinking a beer, waitting on the replys, maybe this will a three beer one WOOT.

Why go with an I/O when you looking at restoring a CLASSIC boat. take a trip over to the fiberglassics website http://www.fiberglassics.com/ And you will find all sorts of information about classic boats. Also you could get a vintage Outboard to go along with that and have a real class rig.

Check out these columns,
http://www.duckworksmagazine.com/06/columns/max/articles.htm

especially the where to get it column:
http://www.duckworksmagazine.com/02/columns/max/03/wawrzyniak.htm

I am running a 1965 West Bend aka Chrysler on a 1968 boat and I have had very few problems with it. Only one I created myself. I drop her into the water and it starts everytime, 1st time. I get to laught at some late model OB owners at the ramp when they are grinding away trying to get it started..

Good, luck.. Great looking classic Enjoy it..

Hi sdunt, not to change subject but I'm running a 65 West Bend 50hp I've had for about 2 weeks on a 16' Lone Star. Engine runs great but need to know is there specific order to start it. Not sure if I'm choking it right or not. Only starts after i pour in alittle gas then runs all day. Thanks for any help

Treat like an ol' E-rude. Pump the bulb til its firm, full choke, throttle on Fast. Soon as it kicks, kill the choke and throttle down a little.
