So 13 lb turkey thawed out on counter 24 hrs, 325 for 6 hrs, any other hints?

I do however feel that the directions given are somewhat over cautious.

Thats for sure.
As long as the meat temp stays below 40-44*, and it is then cooked thoroughly.

We always thaw in the sink, with the bird wrapped/covered in a few dish towels to temper it, and help it to thaw evenly. But it takes more than 24 hours.

was amazing guys!!!! Even the white meat was moist!!! From here on out always a brined bird I think!! And oh geez leftover sandwiches today and dinner, will repeat til it's all gone!!! Thanks for all the hints!! Oh and no one had any ill effects ;)

oh and it was cooked for 5 hours guys at 325, last hour with foil off, let it sit an hour and my awesome son made wokked veggies, baked taters, twice baked, apple pie (oh God I ate too much), cold cranberries as a side spread, was a great all guys football game night!!! :) and my son made leftover sandwiches w/ all the goodies in sandwich maker today, AND I had more for dinner! Burppppppp....... heehee :)
