Re: Snake in lawn mower!

Sorry folks but that is a banded water snake. we have tons of them here in arkansas, its a none posionous snake but it will cause women and some men you say sh*t and then do it sorry had to add that one

LOL
I use to be the field manager for a land surveying company. I worked in the Fort Bend County area marking wet lands for seven years before I was promoted to Chief of Parties (field manager). Every time we came across a snake people always assumed it was a moccasin.
Look at the bands, its not a cotton mouth or moccasin. The bands on a moccasin and cotton mouth will start narrow, get wide in the middle and go back to being narrow. Its hard to tell from the pic but the pupils seem round. Pit vipers only come with vertical pupils (cat eyes). We can debate all day and never agree.

I bet you could catch a BIG fish with a worm that size.

I would guess it was @ 3.5 feet total. There is a small creek/run off behind the property. I am in the process of cleaning area up. Probably destoyed it's habitat.

We have cats to keep mice and rats away. :) The only good snake is a dead one, no matter what kind it is.

I know the color of snakes can vary from place to place and with their age. I say its a cotton mouth.

No! no! no! You are all wrong!

It's a used car salesman, just look at the beady eyes! Good thing you killed it, we don't want them reproducing.

Banded Water snakes do not have a triangular head or sensing pit visible in the side shot.

I have seen cottonmouths with a variety of markings in the Carolinas, where I don't think I ever saw a banded water snake.

This supports my plans...... if I ever hit the lottery I will completely remove ALL the grass on my property and give away my mower...... or hire out the work ;)

was it alive when u hit, perhaps it was dead already, I would suspect if it was alive it would of fled the mower before you got it into the blades. first cut of the season? grass a little tall?

I'm not all that fond of snakes myself.......

I've lived all my life in New England sooooooo, not many poisonous snakes around.....will be moving full time to Florida when I retire in ten months.
Guess I'll have to get used to them (however, the park where our home is, mows the lawn and maint - let them deal with the snakes.....lol)

And not too many snakes to worry about in the Gulf, when fishing......lol.
