I have a 1999 150 hp johnson ocean pro, at the end of last season i noticed that i was have a harder time starting and excessive smoke ( blue ) on first start up of the day, when the motor is running i have no problem with it, good rpm and and very little smoke at all, when i pump up the fuel bulb it get very hard, after start up it is a little softer, last year i put a micron filter on the fuel, when i went to start it up this season it gave me a hard time starting when it did it smoke a long time and it look like oil streaks out the exhust, there was also oil in the cowl, any help would be greatful .... Pete

Take that filter out of the system. Your motor is having too hard of a time pulling gas, but still pumping full oil volume.

Ditto. Anytime there is a fuel restriction the pump will pull more oil to protect the powerhead.

What spark plugs are you using?

DHadley, Are there suitable water seperators for that motor available as aftermarket? Sierra?

I am running the reconmended spark plug champion Ql78yc, They are gap at
.035, I put the Racor 10 micron filter on because of the enthanol gas, they say with out it you are looking at a bill to clean the water out of the carbs,
Also someone said that my vro pump is bad or going bad that the membrain gets a hole in it and pumps extra oil is this true .... ? Is there a easy way to check this out ... ?

Willy, Is there anything else i can check with out taking the filter out,
any help would be appreciated ........ Pete
