Yeah, haven't been here in a while. How's everyone?

Thought I'd throw that out there if anyone is a few weeks into quitting, having trouble- stick with it!

Me and my better half have been smoke free for 14 months thanks to the electronic cigarette.....we both quit the same day that they arrived in the mail. We have weened to vaping menthol juice with 0% nicotine now. Some days I don't even touch mine anymore. We were both heavy smokers for over 40 years and had tried to quit several times but this is the sure-fire method that worked for us.

A little over 6,400 days for me. Quit cold turkey on a business trip with others that didn't smoke. Still carry a lighter. Still smoke a Cuban from time to time.

Congrats to all above.

Still amazes me that people still smoke with all we know. Of course I still see 300 lb dudes dropping a few quarter pounders too.

I quit on October 10th 2007. Still have an urge for a smoke now and then but the urges get less and less as time goes by. A hypnotist worked for me, plus the fact that my wife had survived lung cancer surgery and the following chemo. I was a 2-3 pack a day smoker and had tried to quit several times before. Sounds simple but the biggest motivator is wanting to quit.

Do it for your mom if for no one else. If she could tell you, I am sure she would tell you to quit. Dipping is just as bad as smoking besides being a nasty habit.

I will take my chances with air!

Congratulations! Well done!

10 weeks clean for me, 7 months for my wife. I started in my teens and was a 2 pack a day smoker for 35 years

In my case, unfortunately, it took being diagnosed with emphysema to finally get me to quit. Even at that, it took a year and a hospitalization before I could manage it. It's a daily struggle to keep from lighting up again.

I sure hope anyone still smoking, will get it off it. It's a sure-fire killer. I'm 'only' 57 years old, and I'm now a dead man walking. I don't know how quickly it will progress from here, or how many years I have left, but it certainly wasn't what I'd planned for my 'old age'.

Excellent words of wisdom guys. The misses quit 30 months ago, I'm at 18 months. Feels great to have that monkey of our backs. Hopefully, others take form your experience JoLin.

God Bless!

It definitely gets easier with time. It was a few years until I really got over the urge. I'm just now to the point the thought of one is somewhat repulsive.- BUT, If I walk through a fresh puff of someone's cig--- it's a good smell - But there is really no more urge or want, more of a nice memory- like walking into an old house that smells like Grandma's did.

I quit cold turkey. I had failed so many times- MIND GAMES- - "Rewarding" myself with a cigar for not smoking for a week- and stupid SH!T like that!

Now- 7 years, and 40lbs later- I'm working on the 2nd item on Bruceb's list above.

It will be 9 months tomorrow me and the wife haven't pick up a cig. we quit cold turkey when we found out she was pregnant. As tuff as it was to quit and there is not a day that goes by that I don't want one (really bad sometimes) all I have to do is go pick up our newborn son for a while and the urge goes away. good luck to all that is trying as it has been probably one of the hardest thing I have ever done.

Re: Smoke Free, Day 2,572

I have found that the mechanical habit of smoking is just as hard to quit as the nicotine. It helps if you have something to fidget with...that is why the electronic cigarrette was such a success for me. It allowed me to ween completey off of the nicotine after several months......now when I get the urge I pick up my e-cig and take a few puffs of water vapor with zero % nicotine......It worked for me because it gave me something to fiddle with. My health has improved dramatically...it feels good to breath again and my blood pressure dropped enough to change my meds.

Just getting started, compared to you. This Saturday will be three months. Quit the night I went into the hospital with a collasped lung. Not a method I recommend, BTW......

I was doing the patches. Quit those a week ago. I believe they were causing another issue I was having, ie side-effects.
