I have twin 2005 Mercruiser MPIs (0W048000)with Bravo 3's (0W252400).
The boat had only analog gauges until I installed a Mercury VesselView 403. Nice unit, made by Navico.
The 403 shows a fault on each engine - TRIM CKT HI. I believe that this is because the DIGITAL TRIM on the engine harness has nothing attached to it - see attached picture. The 403 has a configuration setting "Has Trim" for each engine, and even though I set it to false (checkbox cleared), the trim fault on one of the engines still shows on the 403 (as opposed to the same fault on both engines before I cleared Has Trim). I believe that TRIM CKT HI just means that Smartcraft has detected an open circuit on the engine harness line labeled DIGITAL TRIM - nothing is attached to this line on either engine.
I know I can pull the boat and install a digital/analog trim sender, but I dont need this because I already have a functional analog trim gauge on the boat. (OK, maybe this would enable Active Trim if I did.)
What can I attach to the dangling DIGITAL TRIM line so that Smarcraft no longer sees this as an open circuit:
-- 5K Ohm resistor between the DIGITAL TRIM and black ground wire?
-- a 1.5 V battery between the DIGITAL TRIM wire and the black ground wire?
I dont know what kind of signal the DIGITAL TRIM wire is looking for so that the circuit is no longer open (e.g. resistamce, voltage, etc.). Any ideas?
