Any one out there have a free set of plans for outboard racing?

I was thinking about building one for around the lake and to try my hand at river racing. Like the top o mishgan.

Any pics of boats would be awsome!

depending on what size, small your looking for...the best thing to do is look up the region you are in as dictated by the APBA (american powerboat association) you can google it. from there, you can find boats for sale in your area and or find someone who has plans..which would likely be a boat builder for different classes. If you go to ebay, type in hydroplane there also are people selling plans cheap for different race boats.. either hydroplanes or tunnel hulls..there is something for everyone out there!! Good Luck

my small race boat is a 26 foot blown alchohol hydro..a slight difference than y 15' bayliner carpri..lol..:D

Like what lg69hydros said go to APBA and find out what class the run in that race. You would probaly want a B runabout or a C runabout , and start getting your legs and knees in shape !

Here are some photos of one I refinished about 20 years ago...... powered by a Mark 55. It would hit 60 mph and basically be flying about 3" above the water.

I covered the front end with cotton canvas and water proofed it with an enamel pain.... I could not find aircraft dope at a price I liked.

Bob, that is just outrageous! When are you going to build another?

Last week on craigslist I found a 10' Hydroplane for sale it looks like a Glen-L Super Spartan. It was built about 15 years ago from a set of plans. I'm the third owner and it has never been in the water. I need to fix some of the fiberglass, install the steering and motor controls not bad for $50.00.

I really need to build a "man cave" to have the space to do it. This all stems back to when I was a kid..... and I put a 16 HP Scott At watar on a tiny john boat and terrorized the bay folfs :D

Hey Bob,
Is that a Sid-Son? We have one of the earliest Sid Hydros, actually a Sid-Craft (before Sids Uretsky's (sp?) son got into the biz). Runs good with a 30H on it...

I have seen a c class Sid Craft at the lake. There used to be a whole handfull of us that would terrorize the lake in the evenings. Those racing Mercs all sounded like very angry bubmle bees at a distance.

You can't beat that for the money. Got any pics of it?

I have been toying with the notion of building a small outboard hydro for the kids to play (yea, the kids:)))). I have always wanted to build one ever since I was a kid and I saw the copy of Popular Mechins that had the Saucy Shingle plans in. I have a buddy that races stock outboard hydros and he has offered to sell me one of his older boats; and I thought $500 was a good deal.

If your lucky enough to find the old 10' GW Invader that was a fun hull with a 35 or 40 on the back! Loads of fun.
