small johnson outboard pull start spring

I accidentally loaded the pull cord clockwise instead of counterclockwise and bend the spring in the pull cord housing unit. Anyone know where to buy one for a specific make and model? 1969 4 hp johnson.

Hi Penn<br />You should be able to get this part at any J&E dealer in youre area. There is quite a little trick to getting these things together correctly. Round yourself up a manual it will make things a lot easier.

I used a dremel tool to shape a notch to match the original when the end broke off. <br />Maybe you could cut the bent end off & make a notch(if that is how yours is made).

Iboats and NAPA autoparts 18-6511 should fit as well. I fix them myself if they're not too bad, but a new one is only about $15.
