I just bought a used aluminum boat and have noticed small holes in the transom. I tested the transom by getting up on the motor and the transom was solid.

What can I do to prevent further transom deterioration?

Re: Small holes in transom

If its wet and rotting in any areas, it's kinda too late. All you can do is keep it as dry as you can until its not safe to run anymore. In the meantime, fill the holes, at minimum, with some sort of marine sealant.

The only thing you need to do with wooden transoms is never get them wet. Ever. Once they get wet, they rot. Simple as that.
