I have a Bayline Capri and purcahsed it 2 years ago. I notice some hairline cracks here and there but I can't feel the crack. Should I be concerned with this cracks, or are they age markings.

I also need to repair 2 gouges on the bottom, and wanted to know if those repair kits are good enough for that, or do i need to do something else.

Thanks in advance

Re: Small hairline cracks

The hairline cracks are known as stress cracks and are usually little to no concern.

How large are the Gouges? If they are relatively small in size, Marine Tex will do a great job, and can be color matched pretty close. If they are to large they may require some glass work.

If the gouges are small, the gel coat repair kits will work fine, you can get them already matched to your boat's color also.

Don't worry about the cracks. Probably just stress/age cracks in the gelcoat. Repairing them is quite extensive.

Lagoon b

When you say, on the inside, but might be on the out side, can't tell.. I'm a little confused, I don't know what type of boat it is, but if you can see gel coat cracks on the inside, it most likely has a liner in it, it's not really part of the hull, a crack in the liner is not a big problem. If there is no liner and you are looking at the hull then the crack would need to be more than just in the gel coat for you to see it. We will need more info to help you.

Re: Small hairline cracks

Sorry no pic but you are right more info needed
the boat is a 1972 Yates fiberglass v-hull (to flat) I have the floor/sole out for replacement the boat had no foam originally
What I mean buy "inside" I mean looking into the inside of the boat with the floor removed.... the cracks are were the foam and stinger would be attached to the hull...sorry can’t think of the right words
I can’t see them on the outside/bottom of hull due to paint
The cracks seem to be from stress or flexing most are by the transom and the rest are in between the glass matt the ties the stinger into the hull and none in the front of the boat I found a few more were the bottom hull and the outside walls (gunnels I think?)Meet that joint
thanks for the help and sorry to steel the thread
-Richard
