I'm looking to buy a new 4-6 hp four stroke that weighs as little as possible, yet has all the standard accolades. It seems that Hondas and Yamahas are the engines of choice on this forum... is this true even for the really small stuff? Also, has anyone found a website or dealer that offers good prices for this sized engine by Honda and/or Yamaha?

------------------
river rat

Re: small four strokes

I just heard my first Honda 8 hp at idle passing by. It was soo silent and smooth. Anyhow, small one cylinder fourstrokes do vibrate. Why so light? Why not a two cylinder?

Re: small four strokes

I want it light b/c I want my grandfather to be able to pull the motor on and off w/out killing himself and/or dropping the motor in the water! I'm shooting for 50-60 lbs max, which is hard to do in a four-stroke. It's going onto a small aluminum boat that won't take anything too big anyway. I'm afraid the Honda 8 hp is too big on both accounts....
