1987 225 Johnson VRO V6. Traveling at low speed, RPM's decrease slowly, engine dies, won't restart. Turn key and engine doesn't even turn over. Power to solenoid. Ideas?????? Replaced solenoid...no difference.....::(

Can anyone possibly post the wiring schematics for this motor????
TIA

Re: Slowly Drop To Zero........

Is it overheating and seizing?
Have you felt the head for temperature when it won't crank?
Does it turn over after it sits for awhile?

I think you have two unrelated problem's. First, how old is the battery? How tight, and clean are the connection's? Does the charging system work? How old is the gas? How long since the carbs' have been cleaned? Fuel filters' checked? Last full check-over on this engine.

No, I think it is an ignition problem...Does not get hot. Can jump the solenoid to make it turn over...(not ceazed up). Maybe in between where the wires leave one secondary terminal and return to the other on the solenoid (if that makes sense)
Power at the Pos. terminal at the solenoid from battery (can turn over the motor by jumping from there to the secondary closest to it on the solenoid, but nothing happens when I turn the key......

The batteries are fine and I just re-installed them before we went out and this happened (slowly lost power and died). Fuel/filter/carb are fine. Again, power to the solenoid 12.25v (on meter at solenoid primary Pos. connection). If I can't figure this out, I am afraid I will be paying big $$$ I don't have for that "full check-over"...:(
Think I may be able to track it down if I had the schematic....

Try a compression guage. That was alway's our first check, regardless of age.

Re: Slowly Drop To Zero........

so your not getting voltage to the small solenoid terminal, is that correct?

Could be ignition switch, wiring and or connectors.

Charge your battery before trying again. 12.25V is near dead.
