slow mode activated

i recently put my boat in water for the season. upon hitting the bay, boat will not accelerate past 3000rpms. slow mode is activated and boat is not overheating. recent parts include all new thermostats(vermatherms) and all hardware associated with these. the tell tale is very strong. The only other recent problem before putting in the water was a no start issue that was found to be a broken yellow wire leading to the power pack. Once that was repaired, she fired right up. now slow mode is activated and wont reset. the only idiot light on currently is the check engine light which is supposed to be deactivated for my 1996 model year. Ive read the blocking diode could be the culprit as well. Where is this located in the wireing harness for my 1996 model J130txaum boat motor. other than this issue she runs and idles just fine. Any suggestions where to start would be most appreciative. Thanks in advance for any advise given

The check engine light is for an overheat condition. Check the two temp sensors located in the heads and associated wiring. Unplug one sensor at a time and see if the light goes out if it doesn't make sure the tan wires are not shorted out.

Check Engine is a fuel restriction warning. It is activated by a vacuum sensor near the OMS Pump. If you can pump the primer bulb (and it is not collapsed) the light should go out, if everything is working properly. Obviously the fix it to fix the fuel restriction. BTW - the motor does not go into SLOW mode for Check Engine.

So as was suggested, check the overheat sensors. Blocking diode in in wiring harness near where overheat sensor wires plug in. Check shift assist switch as sometimes they stick and kill spark to 1/2 motor. You may have two unrelated problems.
