Slipping tranny?

1977 50 HP Mercury
Okay so I am told that my motor feels like it does when a car tranny slips. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this or what it might be?

With very few exceptions, outboard transmissions don't slip. At least not smoothly. More likely, what you're experiencing is a prop hub slipping. Easiest way to check is to mark a line across the center and outer hubs with a Sharpie marker, run the motor until it slips, then check your lines. If they're no longer in alignment, you need to either have the prop re-hubbed, or replace it entirely.

I went to do that as that is what I guessed it might be but I could not figure out where to draw the line. I am fairly new to engines, I am almost 16. I know about the water really well as i have grown up on it but now with my own boat I want to see if I can do everything mostly by myself.
If you or anyone else could post a photo showing me where to draw the line that would be awesome.

Straight across like the diameter line. Use a magic marker and you want to mark the shaft also.

Okay thanks, I am going to talk to a prop store to see price and such today and will be testing the prop and hub (current) later tomorrow.
