Can anyone comment please as to the disadvantages of buying a 45' slip for a 50' boat? Im upgrading and have more 45' options in my area if that seems acceptable.

One perhaps disadvantage is your boat will stick out past the end of your dock. My last boat was 34' overall and I was in a 35' 9" slip. Boat fit in there nicely with room to spare. Didn't have to worry about someone clipping the stern accidentally.

Is the Marina good with that ? I really doubt it once they see your paperwork is for 50 in a 45 slip. How is the beam ? Of course it's going to have to he backed in as well.

Yes Sir they are aware. The have a few other boats that extend. Some more than my 5'. AND.. I have a 14' beam in a 17' slip. I can handle it (with practice) but perhaps I will keep looking. Hey Thanks for the input!

If the Marina is aware of it then go ahead and 3' ( 1- 1/2 foot per side ) is plenty of clearance . As far as you boat sticking out a few more feet I wouldn't worry about that . My boat sticks out about 8 feet and I am on the outside of a tight maybe 2 boats can fit turn in a harbor. And if no one has hit me there in 3 years you should have no problems.

After doing further research, I see that the 1.5' on each side is nominal. Also I spoke to another owner in the same marina who has had no issues in 2 years with his 7 ft extension. As well as THIS slip is on the inside end of the row so no vessel would drive past it. Thanks again..
