I am in the process of re-conditioning my trailer surge brake slider, replacing the shock dampner and cleaning out the old grease. Is there a better grease than another to reinstall in the cleaned up unit. Should I use regular wheel grease or white lithium grease, is one better than another?

Re: Sliding Tongue Grease

I used Never Seize on the sliding pads mine...
If a grease is actually called for, I prefer to use a synthetic marine formulation like Amsoil or an equivalent.
My 2?:)

Used marine grade synthetic wheel bearing grease on mine, because I had it handy, with good results.

So true! In the firearms community people are always worried about what lube to use for their gun, I always tell them the same thing, "as long as there is lube there, and it is not contaminated, DON'T worry about it!" The old adage of keep it wet and it will be happy applies here.

I like slip plate - SLIP Plate? Aerosol or other graphite in a can products. We used it on hydraulic car hauler trailers for all sliding contact points. Since its a dry lube, it won't get junk stuck in it being exposed n' all like greases will.
