Ok you Slickraft owners please chime in. I purchased a "1973" 21ft. V birth in great shape but in need of repowering. mercruiser "888" model with ford 302. Is this a brand of boat that will go the distance? Has anyone had any brand specific problems I should know about? In the bow of this boat in the birth there appears to be a factory built-in triangle shaped tank in fiberglass with a fiberglass tube sticking out about 1 1/4" dia. and a plastic barb fitting also sticking out about 1/2" dia. What is this?

the tank is probably a fresh water tank. is/was there a sink? You will have to determine the condition ov the hull. is it sound? any flex? the merc. 888 is a excellent drive. worth repairing. ditch the 302 and stuff a big block in there. the boat is made for it and you will never regret it.

That 888(Mod.1) is a good drive, But it Won't take a big block..... 351W is as big as you're going to get anyway.... i've seen many Slickraft,+ never heard anything bad....

Re: Slickraft input please!

Leon Slikkers created the Slickcraft boats back in the late 60's or early 70's (hence the name Slickcraft). He was widely known to make quality boats. After making the company a financial success he sold the company (to AMF, I believe) and started another boatbuilding company, S2 Yachts. He initially built sailboats, but there was a demand for his skill in powerboat building, so he built an S2 powerboat for 1 or 2 years. Again, it was a success, so he marketed the powerboat under the new name of Tiara. They are still being built to this day and are some of the finest powerboats built anywhere in the world.
