I have a 19 foot 1977 Sleekcraft (Nescher) and have removed the rotten transom. This has the Mercruiser I/O and I need someone to fabricate a 2 inch thick replacement. Wm
this place like boat university....so any thing you need to know its here.....
first of all.......there is no canvassing on the forums....so posting a job offer is a no no....you might say somthing like.....does ony body know where i can get a transom rebuilt?
ok......now.....whats so special that you cant build one your self?
i did....and hundreds of people on the forum.....its easy.....really easy.
just search the completed projects forum.....
and the hull extension in progress thread has detailed pics.....
Yes I can cut it myself, but dont know where to get the material. Any suggestions. The plywood is 2 inches thick. It doesnt have to be ply. Anything available at a local lumber yard?
external grade plywood......i used pressure treated ply .....but i would not suggest pt unless you do a lot of research and have at least one month to dry it.....
(there is also other methods, like seacast or using a composit like penski board...but they are veru expencive.....wood will out last your desire to own the boat....20 some years)
you will also need fiberglass cloth...matt and resin.....
make the 2 ins any way you want.......2 sheets of 1 inch with a layer of glass cloth between
a lot of people use 3/4 inch and make up the difference with glass.
this will be the cheapest way....as a transome replacement by pros can cost 2k....and they wont take the time and care you will....
i hang out around boat yards....ive seen pro jobs that i would have never done such a shoddy job
this forum is full of replacement threads.....my buddy rob j did a project a year or two ago...you cant tell the difference between his boat and factory....
