Ski Pylon preparation

I want to install a ski pylon to my 16 ft fiberglass boat. It has a evinrude 125 outboard and the boat is 7 ft wide. Is this a runabout? Anyway I'm doing a transom, floor, and hull restoration, and figure now is the time to make changes if I need to. This is a family boat, no hard pulling intended, but I dont want to rip the tail off after I spend all this time repairing it. Better to overbuild it I figure. I planned on a 1/2'' floor, current one is 1/4''. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Re: Ski Pylon preparation

Should have mentioned I haven't picked a type of pylon, or a brand. I could use some help there too. Thanks again

Re: Ski Pylon preparation

this is the part number for the pylon I got a few years ago. I have had no problems at all. Easy install! A tip i wish i had known when i installed. Mount the deck base before you put that section of the deck down and be sure to use stainless fasteners. No problem pulling multiple skiers.

Do a search in the marine store for part number 922-ADJ-S

PS pics would help identify your boat!

when your building the sole....(deck...floor)

1/2 inch minimum in the pylon base area......if you can double that under the floor go for it....glass in the backing section as well

Can't believe I'm using the "f" word so much. I know better,... boats don't have floors.

Just learned today the stringers in my boat are actually fibreglass boxes full of foam. So much for attaching any structure to them with bolts or fasteners.

Gotta rethink this.:eek::confused:

thanks TC for the info and I do know what the boat is, just don't know how to add the tag line to the bottom of my posts.

Its a 64' "Sweet16" by OMC w/74' 125hp evinrude

Want attachment points? Yank out the foam from the stringers, and use Oops favorite brand of epoxy, with plenty of roven strands mixed in.

sorry again, oops, beat you to it

Are you suggesting I fill the cavity in the stringer w/ epoxy and strands?

I know I said they were stringers, but maybe beam would be more appropriate.

They (2 of them) measure 4.5" wide 8.5" tall (tapering to 4"tall at the stern) and 10ft long!

Thats just crazy talk:eek:

I'm not Bill Gates :D lol

But seriously can I cut a slot in the top, remove the foam, paint the inside w/ epoxy resin (SPARINGLY!!!) and refoam ?

I have a 16 foot Glastron Runabout. When I did the stringers and Deck I added the ski pylon. I did as oops suggested. Double the decking at the attachment point. The back supports I simply attached the the fiberglass with the included hardware. I will take some pics for you today.
