First I have to say I love the name- CaptainKickBack

Hey what shop did you have? If you don't want to post it here PM me.

Oh and I was thinking farther along the New River (I built boarding stairs for a 60' Hatteras on sailboat bend w/ no actual dock just seawall and them big round fenders) and up in the canals farther back where I've seen many boats tied to walls behind friends houses. Is there a dock on the north side of Las Olas by the street where they used to keep some Bluewaters?

A 10' dock is fully 5 ft shorter than your typical small boat and more than likely 8 ft shorter than a family runabout.
Some boats at least at first arrival you can only get aboard near the stern if the top or cover are installed.
Then there is the ordeal of putting the cover/top on with limited access from a dock so short.
As suggested once you shorten the dock you may have to fight to get your length back.
For years we rented a 15ft slip for our 15ft boat The actual dock was less than 24" wide but on both sides of the boat and shared with the neighboring boat. We were able to use a 15ft slip with a 15ft boat because it was very quiet marina with little wave action.
You might consider a 10 ft dock with a 10ft or more approach ramp I actually had a 16ft ramp at the cottage about 36" with twin 2X4 railings each in the form of a truss it was rock solid and while not easy to load from you could tie one end of a boat there.
My son has the same thing now but 8ft wide with the trusses below the ramp.

Don't mind at all. It was a tiny convenient store some would call a news stand. It was named McCarthy's just 5 doors from the Floridian. Waa quite a departure from my software development career, but turned out to be a good education for running a retail type of business. That really helped when opening out salon. BTW, the salon is named Kick Back Hair Affair, which is where our boat name and iboats user name came from. The user name kickback was already taken so I had the add "captain".

OP, sorry to hijack your thread.

CaptainKickBack,

I just read your restore thread. WOW! You do know that you're insane, right?

OP, sorry to hijack CaptainKickBack's hijacking of your thread, but you gotta see his restore thread. Click the bottom link on the Captain's signature.

Oh, and bpatters69 (the OP)

The extra pilings are a good idea to increase the size of a boat that could dock at whatever pier you build.

While the pier building guys are there, you may want to have them stick in a piling or two away from your pier, for mooring posts. It will be cheaper while they are they are there, than having to call them back.

If you have to get involved with permits for the new pier, be sure to add any possible future pilings or whatever you can think of to the permit request papers, even if you don't plan on installing them now. That way, you can install later without dealing with new permits.
