out today with my '96 225 merc oil injected motor when suddenly lots of rattleing ,loss of power and stall occurred . got
boat back to marina with kicker and removed cowl for inspection . found hole straight thru intake manifold about 3/4 inch .
hole is thru and thru.my questions are ,what could have caused this ,is it worth replacing this part (if I can find it) would I
need to tear the motor down to see if fragments went into crank case .in leiu of all of this I compression tested the motor
a few weeks ago and found the cylinders to be between 80 and 77 psi. each cylinder was read twice in neutral no throttle
professional gauge. so now I am thinking I may need power head. any input would be greatly appriecated. thank you.

. Something went a bit awry. To be honest I wouldnt even bother tearing into it at this point. You know its history. Start looking for a replacement powerhead. Good news is those things are so big and heavy there isnt much of a resale market for them like there is with the 2.5's. Last one I bought I got for $900 missing the lower unit. Ran like a top.
