I have decided to paint my deck with Sani-tred. When I replace the center console should I use silicone or 5200 under it to seal it? Also I have a large access panel in the floor for the fuel tank I would say maybe 3'x5' should I silicone the edge or 5200 to seal it back in place?

Re: silicone vs 5200

Use 3m 4200 which is a strong removable silicone type sealant ....the 5200 is permanent and if you ever plan on opening or removing things it will be near impossible.

Regular silicone tends to shrink and fail and that is why it is not recommended

I second that. 5200 is great stuff. However if you plan on ever getting access to your tank again you'd practically have to destroy your hatch to get it up again.

Re: silicone vs 5200

Not to change the subject but i have came across another type of sealant that might be useful. We use a product called Sikaflex 1A where i work.i had a tube laying around and after a total hull rebuild i discovered leaks in my livewell.Out of desperation i opened the 1A as i had no 4200 on hand.Man does this stuff stick to gelcoat. It cured overnight and you would have great difficulty removing it.My livewell doesn't leak anymore plus i can use the contents of the tube as i need it as it doesn't have a short shelf life after the tube is opened.I have also used it below the waterline with good success.I don't know the cost per tube but in a pinch i think it would be a good alternative to 4200.

Sikaflex?-1a sounds like great stuff. I want to thank all for the help. It sounds like 4200 would be the best for my application because im sure it has been used by many and I can find nothing negative about it.
