side mount remote control help

I have a 1986 tidecraft bass boat with an Evinrude 50hp. Can anyone tell me what all the functions are on the side mount controls. Particularly, the turnable knob on the front facing the seat and the three hole small connection port below it.

Knob is a throttle friction so you can tighten it up to make it stay where you put it. Connector is for a tachometer and/or gage hookup.
