Hey guys, I want to get some thoughts on this. I have the opportunity to purchase a 1959 16 foot glasspar with a mid eighties 40 horse johnson. It has solid floors and transom and no patch holes on the boat at all. The only issue I see is that it was repainted but very badly and needs redone. The sell said he would start it up for me (I already look at it but he didn't start it). The drop dead price is $1500.00. Do you think it's worth it if all it needs is a repaint?

no! if you want an older boat and a project, i would not go above $1,000. they hull has little value, other than it floats. the value is in the motor, and trailer. a good sanding and repaint will do wonders.

There are MANY older boats out there with motors and trailers for under $400. My 60 Starcraft, complete with a big twin 40 and trailer set me back $150.

$1500 would be considered a good price if the boat was tip top and needs nothing.

I agree...sounds steep for one that isn't really nice overall.

I think you guys are right. I found a 62 larson (same style) with running motor and new floor, stringers and seats with a decent body for $800 OBO. My go look at that.
