I for one am not into shopping for others. I'll steer them towards or away from certain types, say what to look for or avoid, but he has to look at his own classifieds. A comment on a couple of ads for examples of red flags or good deals is one thing, but it does little good to go through his ads, guess what we're seeing, and expect them to still be for sale.

The good craigslist old cheap boats in his range sell in 24 hours, no warranty, no survey, no sea trial. That takes someone on the ground running, with skills and instinct, or someone who is mighty lucky.

Nearly as many hours as that the last couple months - but I'm on the computer most of the time so it's easy to jump on and off the net. But we're working and makin' a living, right?!? :)

Was looking for some updates on your free boat.

Well I took you guys advise and stayed away from the omc bayliner. But I been to a couple dealer ships to check out a few new and used boats. So I'm taking my time and doing my homework before I buy my first boat. Thanks for all the help! Will keep you guys posted!

MY best deals were at maritime auctions and Ebay, and you'll do better in the fall and early winter. If someone is trying hard to sell a boat during that time they are likely very motivated sellers and need the money. It's a buyers market, a poor economy in most places, and there are lots of bargains available. Don't rush it, your boat will come to you.

No updates for a while yet... BUT.... I came SOOOOOO close to buying another boat.... the logistics killed it though... I just didn't have time to make the deal and get it moved before the deadline which was the end of this month..... Get ready to drop a jaw at what I ALMOST bought!
I'm certain that I would have won the auction for 4.5k but I would have bid 5k in the last few seconds to be safe.
Then I could have sold the Monte Carlo for plenty to pay for her and fix her up with money to spare.

Lotsa' lookin' - it's a great way to figure out what you want. Wait for your pitch. You can always rent once or twice too.

Re: Should I or shouldn't I?

ALWAYS take CASH with you to look at the boat... If it really is a smokin deal, you don't have time to talk it over with your wife and come back tomorrow.... That said, ALWAYS be prepared to walk away... If it isn't the right deal, there WILL always be another boat.

When you make a low offer, never insult the seller... qualify your offer with a reason that is all you and not his fault.... BUT always leave yourself an out.... If you offer $xxxx because it's all you have you can't up the deal without being a liar.... If you offer $xxxx because you "just really don't want to spend more" you can always change your mind and up the offer just because.
