Should I install Fuel/Water Separator?

How sure are you that the Merc is 1990? Because everything I see on that engine says 1992, and they had the metal can filter, which had to be changed to the engine mounted spin-on (as the metal can was NLA and superseded to the spin-on kit)...
The full size pics. You’ll notice the VP also had a pre filter too on bulkhead.

You’ll know better about these things than I Chris. With that in mind…being fair…the mercruiser 4.3 of mine pictured there doesn’t 100% tell for certain a clear image of a filter where I’ve indicated. Looks like it might be…but unless I’d found that picture of it…I’d have sworn the fuel filter was mounted separately on the bulkhead forward of the engine…which would explain your thinking. That’s what I would have sworn it was like, as mentioned originally. So you may be right about the mercruiser at least. But the VP defo had a filter there for sure. It was a long time ago I had these boats.
