Re: Should I drill holes in my prop?

I just bought a Hustler al prop off here. It has holes from the factory.

Has anybody tried this on a composite prop? Assuming wall thickness is reasonably similar wall thickness, I am guessing the benefits should be similar?

It does work BUT with a standard prop NOT having much cup you can NOT trim out at high speed as much as a better SS prop

Re: Should I drill holes in my prop?

Forgot to mention Hustler is a high perf alum with cupped, high rake blades, and porting (holes).

In answering the question as to why OEM's don't furnish props with holes it depends on use. Like mentioned, if you are just putting around with the family on Sunday afternoon, not needed......if you have an I/O you don't want them kind of reasons.

Besides, the last few times I bought new boats, the engine was furnished without a prop for the dealer to decide on (the correct one) and install. Since the engine OEM doesn't know what type application the engine will be involved in, it makes sense to ship it with a bare propshaft....with lock and nut.
