Should I buy this boat?

Re: Should I buy this boat?

I have an 84' 19ft Monark fish and ski model with 200hp outboard. It is great for fishing and will do fine with a tube, but with a lot of weight in the boat it can take some trim skill to get it planed. I was looking for the exact same thing as you when I bought this boat and I love this one. The only thing that would make it perfect, and I hate to say it, would be if it was tinny  there are some tinnny fish and ski models but good luck finding someone who will come off of it! and if they do be prepared to spend more than $2000.

Your objective is not hard to meet: "I want to buy a boat, my main interest will be fishing, mostly casting and jigging, but maybe some trolling. Also, if I could get a boat that could pull someone tubing or skiing, that would be great too. I know, its not easy to find a boat that can do both well."

You want as much open space as possible, so no closed bow, no sofa boats (stuffed full of upholstered seatnig, dash boards and consoles, etc.) and without question, an outboard. A 17' center console will do it all, as will an old "trihull" from 16-18' (I'm using these sizes to stay in budget). Since you are on lakes (assuming relatively sheltered) look at a bay boat hull as well as V; the bay boat may be better.

The way to do this is start by "window shopping" new boats, in person and on line, and walking around marinas, hanging at the ramp, and boat shows, to understand what you want for your needs. Then, and only then, start trolling the used boat ads. It't the only way to avoid the mistake of buying a used boat and trying to make it fit your needs. Go the other direction: make the boat come to you.

So the floor is apparently plywood with marine varnish on boat sides, with open cell foam underneath. Sound sufficient?

Yah you are prolly good there (closed cell foam is much better). I just get a little nervous about having to having to pay for upgrades (like this one is priced at) that need to be torn out.

Do you think the boat is reasonably priced at $3200?

Turns out the foam is actually closed cell, that was my mistake.

Yeah, any boat that old and that size isn't worth much more.^^^^^^^^

Assuming the restoration work is all great, what is a fair price in your guys' opinion, in your areas?

In my neck of the wood that boat would go $1500 TOPS. Prolly more like $800 - $900.

I'll not comment on the tri hull glasser.
