Re: Should I buy the Johnson 4R70E opinions??

Imagine how much the first motor vibrated with one piston missing...the crank would have been way out of balance!

I've got a new single cylinder Yamaha 4 hp four stroke for clean trolling and it's a "thumper" ...I wish I would have gotten the bigger twin to smooth out the ride!

Man, sorry to hear that. Thats why I went with the 2 cylinder.

hi guys im new to boating and live in manchester England, what id like to say is ive just bought a johnson 4hp 4R70E seriel no C40278, from an auction for ?45, when i got it home it wouldnt start as i think the coils have gone as theres cracks all over the coating and theres no sparks at all, my question to you guys is do any of you know where i can get a couple of coils cheaper than here in rip of britain (as its known), here ive been told ?30-?40 each thats about $70 i think, ive noticed there a lot cheaper in the US but the postal costs spoil it, most sellers on ebay America want ?25 to post just one and i need 2, any info would be great....Gaz

In good condition, they are very good motors. It is one of the quietest motors of the size. You do realize that it is hand start, right? BTW, there is no one cylinder 40hp motor that I know of.

dont know why, but i thought the op was referring to a 40hp also? but that is a nice little motor, well worth it if it has good compression.

try starting a new thread on the subject.....but i do think there is a german made replacement coil, whether you can get them and at what price on your side of the pond is an unknown.
