Should I be worried

I am considering buying this boat. Wheels and tires are good, bearings are good, brakes are good, lights are good, trailer condition is good, the trailer is rated to carry this much weight, and bunks are good. My concern is how far the boat sits on the trailer. You can see how far the transom is from the end of the trailer and also the bunks. Should I be worried?

If you have enough tongue length to move the bow winch forward a bit you would be better off...

If its cheap enough and you like the boat, go for it. Then, buy a new trailer.

Yep your right, the winch assembly is as far forward as it can be..

It looks like you may be able to swap the winch post and the jack so the post can move forward, assuming here's enough clearance to operate the jack behind the winch...

Give it a look and see if you can move things forward a bit without affecting your turning radius..

While it does seem a bit short it does have a pair of 6 lug axles so it should have a pair of 5200 lb axles. Why not making up a set longer bunks that go all the way to the end of the transom. I don’t think the boat can go much more further forward due to the position of the tongue. First thing I’d do is make sure you have adequate tongue weight with the boat where it is. If so I’d then consider making up a longer set of bunks.

Trailer is too short. It looks like they already pushed the bunks as far back as they can go, as the front end is right at the mounting bracket but the rear is a couple of feet back from the bracket. Making longer bunks would put a long section of bunk with a lot of unsupported weight.

The trailer was designed for a specific weight and boat length. Making mods is sometimes not the best answer if the trailer's specs aren't right.

Thought the trailer had the weight capacity for the boat....if not, than yes, time for a new trailer !!

Not a fan of the bunks overhanging end of trailer like that. Many aluminum trailers are like that and think it is basically a cost saving move. 2x6 is cheaper than aluminum.

Prefer having the trailer frame and supports under the end of the bunk / transom to support the weight, not some 2x6.

I only have lighter weight aluminum hulls so I have had many trailers with frames stopping well in front of the transom. Many of my trailers have/ had rollers and bunks that tilt to handle loading, the center of the tilt mechanism is at the back of the trailer frame. Never had an issue, actually makes loading easier. Now if I had a 5000K plus heavy glass boat, a different story there !!

No kidding. The trailer is too short. The specs list weight and length. Look up the specs. They have not been posted here yet. Whoever put that rig together did the owner a bad service.

Maybe an optical delusion, but that hull looks like it has already developed a hook, where it hangs off the bunk.

I did not realize the trailer capacity was under the boat weight....so yes, the trailer should be upgraded !!

The OP has not been back. Did he heed the sage's advice or did he buy the boat anyway and is embarrassed? Or, simply moved on.

When ever I post a thread I always followup, regardless. But, that's just me.
