hi can anyone help me ?

i have a 1994 mercury 150 v6 outboard. gearbox was damaged and i bought a second hand gear box several months ago for it. went to fit it today and realised its a short shaft and my original gearbox was a long shaft.

is ther a conversion kit out there somewhere that will convert / extend my short shaft to long shaft or can anyone offer me any advice ? or do i simply have to source another gearbox ?

all turning into a nitemare !!!!

thanks

Re: short shaft gearbox

Billy, You likely mean you bought a longshaft (20") and need an XL shaft (25"), yes. Gee, I think you can just switch the driveshafts. That is a bit of a job, since you need to pull the bearing carrier and remove the nut on the base of the driveshaft.

Alternatively, you can get a jackplate and lower the motor.

Re: short shaft gearbox

What are the damages to your original lower unit?

From what i understand, you'll have to swap the longer driveshaft and shifshaft from your original L/U onto the newer one, making it a longshaft L/U...

(edit: sorry for the double post, Chris1956 beat me by a couple of minutes...)
