Shop Tach

What are you guys using as a shop Tech ? I have a Bosch's FIX 7529 Digital Advance Timing Light with Tach but it shows rpm at 1300 so I'm assuming I divide that by 2 and get 650 ? was hoping to get something to take the math out of it

You probably are missing a setting, take a look at the instructions.

I use a 60 year old tach that my father used in high-school. I also have a 50 year old tach that my wifes father used. I also have a laser tach that I use for small engines, etc.

As far as the Tach goes the only setting is 2cycle and 4cycle

I use a sun timing light with tach set on 2 strk.

What motor are you using it on? Some 2 cylinder two strokes (my Tohatsu is one) only have one Siamese coil and sparks both plug wires each revolution.

It's a 2 cylinder mercury 35hp

Make sure the pick up is not hanging down on the second wire.

I believe my engine gets 2 pulse's ( fires twice ) per revolution. That's why the tach I have needs to be divided by 2. I know there are hand held tachs that have adjustments for this I was just checking to see if anyone had any experience with any of them..

digital laser tach is my go to , i use it for everything , just buy a roll of reflective stick on when you first buy one.

Any particular brand ? I see the one at harbor freight has good reviews. But I normally don't shop harbor freight for something like this

I bought my laser tach on Amazon. I think I paid $11
