I have a 1985 E2RCOC that I have gone through but I'm still not able to find the electrical leak. I am getting zapped when I move the armature plate. One of the next steps is to replace the magneto and spark plug wire.

Somehow the armature plate is getting electrically hot. I have tightened the armature plate screw to remove play; the magnet may have been pulling the magneto to the flywheel. I have spaced the magneto all the way back on the armature plate so as not to interfere with the flywheel magnets. I have wrapped EVERYTHING in electrical tape to stop any arcing;magneto, spark plug wire...
BUT, there is one part missing that may hold a clue. There is no armature plate gasket, PN 0320432. Is this my missing isolator?
Any other ideas are appreciated.....
Thank you,
J

Is your breaker point assay clean, no cracking, carbon tracking?

Is the ground wire missing, loose or broken that comes off of the mag plate ??

Hi, boobie,
All grounds according to BOM look good. Ground wire from magneto internal to ground, harness 580733 lead is connected to engine block.
Everything looks great EXCEPT 320432 armature gasket is missing. I have no idea what this gasket is for.
I'll try a gasket. Has to be there for a reason.....
Thanks for the contact. Always meaningful.

I saw the gasket on the parts break down but if it cures it let us know. Have you replaced the coil and the coil lead ?? Sometimes you have to take the coil to a shop that has a coil tester and can put it under load. Leaks will then show up. Did it many times.

Well unless the gasket is attached with nylon screws or some type isolation devices I don't see how that would solve your problem...

wait till night time then fire it up in the dark. If you have close neighbours this may not be a good idea. In the dark you will be able to see any hi voltage arcs

another test is to measure ohms from the plate to the block then with the meter attached throttle up (not running) and see if the ohms change as the plate moves. Its not uncommon for a wire when flexing to have a weak spot that when rotated the wire will pull apart inside the insualtion breaking the grounding on the plate
